Fox Point Speed Study Results

Good afternoon resident(s),

In the summer of 2025, Spotsylvania County conducted a speeding evaluation on several community streets at the request of the Fox Point Board of Directors. The results of this study have recently been made available to the Board and are now also available to homeowners.

The request for the evaluation was made following long-standing issues and complaints regarding speeding in the neighborhood. The original purpose of the request was to determine if the level of speeding qualified the roads evaluated (listed below) for additional VDOT signage indicating extra fines for speeding in a residential area. Per Spotsylvania County, the evaluated road must have at least 600 travelers per day with a minimum of 85% of those travelers driving 10+ miles over the posted speed limit to qualify for the additional signage. The results of the study revealed that the streets evaluated within Fox Point do not meet the requirements for additional residential area speeding fines.

Below is a summary of the results which includes the locations evaluated. These roads were chosen based on volume of traffic as well as the volume of speeding complaints received. Each location was evaluated over the course of one week using a speed tracking camera provided by Spotsylvania County/VDOT. You will notice that for the community’s two main roads, Blackstone Blvd. and Fox Point Rd., speed cameras were placed in two different locations. The full data collected at each location can be accessed via the links included after the summary.
