In alignment with other local closures and cancellations, the Fox Point Pool will be closed today, Friday, July 17, due to the very high Air Quality Index resulting from the wildfire smoke that has concentrated in our area this morning.
Spotsylvania County is currently under a “Code Red” air quality alert, meaning conditions are unsafe for all, including our residents and lifeguard staff. The current air quality poses risks to everyone, not just vulnerable groups. Individuals with respiratory or heart conditions, the elderly, and children are the most at risk (Source: Virginia DEQ).
To best protect yourself and your family, please consider the following:
- Avoid physical activity outdoors
- Keep windows and doors closed
- Set your air conditioner to recirculate
- Consider using a HEPA air filter inside your home
- For sensitive groups, consider wearing a well-fitting N95 or KN95 mask
- Monitor local conditions – current air quality levels can be checked online at AirNow.gov, The Weather Channel, etc.
